Dauman said, "This will continue to propel SpongeBob internationally."
Philippe Dauman, a former president and CEO of Paramount and Nickelodeon's parent company Viacom, officially announced on February 28, 2012, that a sequel film was in development and was due for an unspecified 2014 release, saying "We will be releasing a SpongeBob movie at the end of 2014." Dauman said the new film "will serve to start off or be one of our films that starts off our new animation effort." Nickelodeon expected the film to do much better in foreign box offices than the 2004 feature considering the channel's increasingly global reach. In July the same year, Paramount formed its new animation unit, Paramount Animation, in the wake of the commercial and critical success of the 2011 computer-animated film Rango and the departure of DreamWorks Animation upon completion of its distribution contract in 2012. On March 4, 2011, the Los Angeles Times reported Paramount had "another SpongeBob picture" in development. Internal disagreement delayed collaborations. The network had long wanted to partner with Paramount Pictures to release another SpongeBob SquarePants film to help reinvigorate the series' declining ratings. We just feel like we've told so many stories, and SpongeBob exists so well in this short 11-minute form." He also stated that making another film was "a huge challenge." However, Tibbitt said a sequel is not impossible, saying, "I wouldn't say no, but I don't know if there will be another one." In 2010, Nickelodeon was reportedly approaching the crews of the show to make another film adaptation. In a 2009 interview with Digital Spy, former SpongeBob SquarePants writer and executive producer Paul Tibbitt was asked about the possibility of a sequel he said, "I think that they are talking about doing that, but I haven't signed up for anything. 2 Differences between the trailers and the filmsįollowing the release of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in 2004, producer Julia Pistor stated that a sequel film was unlikely despite its successful box office performance.
It does have a password system, but I really do think that they could have allowed you to save your game. The game does not have any kind of save game feature which for the time this game was released is pretty ridiculous in all honesty. It is one that is going to provide you with more of a challenge than you would think. So, while it is what you would call a “kids” game. Some levels have different ways you can go through them and one of them is always much more challenging. The game is far more challenging than you would think. What The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game does may not be groundbreaking stuff in the genre, however, I would say that it does what it does very well. You can collect coins as you go and there are also some fun mini-games and boss battles as well. You can play as both SpongeBob and Patrick and they each have their own set of moves for you to make use of. The gameplay is that of a 2D action/platformer.
Although, if they could have put a few actual cut scenes in the game I do feel that would have been cool. The soundtrack is what you would expect from a SpongeBob game and in all, I have no complaints about the way the game looks. SpongeBob, Patrick, and the rest of the cast all look good and are animated really well. I also like how bright and colorful everything was. There are six worlds that are based on various locations from the movie and not only do they all look unique from each other. This is a 2D platformer and the game looks pretty damn solid.
One feature that all of the SpongeBob games seem to share is a slick level of presentation and that is the case for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie game on the Game Boy Advance too. The game is not as cinematic as the console versions, but the story is told well enough through text and still pictures from the movie.
SpongeBob is mad as hell at getting passed over for a promotion so when King Neptune needs help finding a special spatula, SpongeBob jumps at the chance to prove he can do it. The story of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie follows the plot of the movie pretty closely. The fact of the matter is this little dude has appeared in far more “good” games than he has bad ones.
One thing that I feel really needs to be mentioned is that while it would be so easy to just pass over all of the SpongeBob games. The one I am looking at today is for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. I thought that the first The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie was fantastic and the video games based on it were pretty damn good too.
